Aerial Views of Gateway of India, Taj Mahal Hotel, Royal Bombay Yacht Club – 3 Postcards 1920
Three 1900 postcards with aerial views of the Gateway of India, Taj Mahal Hotel, and Royal Bombay Yacht Club. The location is Apollo Bunder in South Bombay. The background shows the once quaint-looking buildings of South Bombay. Just behind the Royal Bombay Yacht Club and its annex is the Wellington Circle, later Regal Circle, now known as S P Mukherjee Chowk.
Another of the city’s famous landmarks is the Prince of Wales Museum that faces the Wellington Circle. The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and Gateway of India stands majestically at Apollo Bunder. The second postcard shows the Royal Bombay Yacht Club and its high-rise annex on its left. The third postcard shows a portion of the Apollo Bunder with its tide-measuring center at the corner. Vaguely visible near it is a statue in black possibly that of Lord Hardinge, Viceroy from 1910 to 1916. Sailing boats are seen neatly parked in front of the Yacht Club. Did you know – constructed in 1903 the Taj Mahal Hotel is housed in a 22 storied building.
