19th-Century Painting of European Ladies By Major A C Hutchinson
A 19th-century watercolour painting of European ladies by Major A C Hutchinson of the Bengal Artillery. Two elegantly dressed European ladies, a pencil sketch of a nude, and a scorpion all figure in this beautiful 19th-century painting. Not sure of the significance of the scorpion although it is much found in tropical countries like India. The bottom painting shows the lady and a child resting on her lap with a faraway look in her eyes.
The top painting shows lady in blue with a bright face holding roses in her hands. On the reverse side is another watercolour painting of A C Hutchinson. This 10 x 8 inch watercolour painting is unsigned and untitled both are believed to be of Major Hutchinson’s style of painting. Not much is known of him except that he was from the Bengal Artillery under the East India Company then. Because of its age of over 180 years, the painting had developed some wormholes.
