Railway Life Train Journey Across India – Old Photo 1929

This is an interesting old photograph of Railway Life in the British India era of 1929. Text on the bottom left reads “Our Train Across India Resolute World Cruise 1929.” The SS Resolute was a steam cruise ship of the Hamburg-American Line that travelled around the world. I have added pictures of a 1929 travel brochure of the SS Resolute (taken from the net).

The ship travelled around the world every year Bombay was one of the major stops. The itinerary as per the brochure included travel to Agra, Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, Delhi, Benaras, and Calcutta. So this very train shown in this photograph may have taken them to all these places. Not sure which station this is but possibly Agra or Delhi. See my post- Train At A Railway Platform British India – Old Photo 1914. Read a brief on- SS Resolute.

Did you know- nationalized in 1951, Indian Railways is today the largest rail network in Asia and the world’s second-largest network operated under a single management.
