This book is about birds of Bombay, now Mumbai written by Edward Hamilton Aitken. The author was affectionately called EHA by his friends and associates. This is the second edition published in 1933, the first edition was brought out in 1901.
An interesting read on many of the birds that were found around Mumbai before the 1930s. Since the landscape has hugely changed since then to an unimaginable level. Many of the species may not be so common today, many may have altogether vanished.
And some may be on the red list. Edward Hamilton Aitken was undoubtedly India’s greatest naturalist and writer. Salim Ali, another of India’s greatest ornithologists was a great admirer of EHA. Read more about Bibliographic notes on EHA’s ‘The common birds of Bombay’.
