After the customs formalities was over, the passengers would board the waiting horsecarts. Since automobiles would appear only by the 1900s. The Bunder was later renamed Wellington Pier. The jetty was reclaimed from a marshy area in the 1830s and was said to be “a foul and hideous place”. Subsequently by 1915, Bombay Port began accommodating passenger ships after it expanded its harbour for docking of passenger ships. The use of the Wellington Pier as a landing jetty was altogether discontinued.
