Vintage Cars & Indian Landmarks, 1944 Card Album
This is a rare and interesting vintage car card album with Indian landmarks from 1944. The album contains 24 pages with rectangular cards of vintage cars superimposed on each page, see images. The pages have reproduced old pictures of Indian landmarks that provide a quaint backdrop to the vintage cars. Some of the landmarks are the Taj Mahal, Bombay Fort, Esplanade Calcutta, Fort St George Madras, Elepahanta, and so on.
The depicted vintage cars are that of 1896 Peugeot, the first Coventry Daimler, 1901 Renault, 1910 Mercedes Tourer, 1905 Vauxhall Flansem Cab, 1906 Wolseley, 1907 Rover, 1910 Mercedes Sport-Phaeton, 1913 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, etc, upto 1928 Lagonda Sporting. This 1944 album was brought out by Burmah-Shell. The company operated in India from the British era days. In 1976 the Government of India took over Burmah-Shell. Initially naming it as “Bharat Refineries Ltd”, then later “Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).” Click on the photo for better view.
