Aerial View Of Old Delhi & New Delhi 1946 Vintage Print

This is another vintage print of the aerial view Of Old & New Delhi a page from The Illustrated London News. Dated to Feb 9, 1946, it measures 14 x 10 inch. See my post- Vintage Print New Delhi Aerial View of Parliament. Originally photographed by Lord Alanbrooke. The first picture is the aerial view of the Indian Parliament and the Viceroy’s House or Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The second picture is of old Delhi showing densely packed buildings. They shifted the capital to Delhi from Kolkata after King V’s announcement at the Great Coronation Durbar in 1911. Read about The Move From Calcutta.

Did you know- colonialism spread its footprints over the whole of India and since flights started commercial operations from the 1930s it was easier and faster to travel by it than ships. Hence Delhi being geographically central in India was the ideal choice as the capital.
