Storming & Taking Bangalore By Marquis Cornwallis, 1800 Print

An 1800 print showing Marquis Cornwallis and his men storming and taking Bangalore (Bengaluru). During the 3rd Anglo-Mysore War, in 1791, the East India Company army (British forces), under Lord Cornwallis laid siege to Bangalore. Arriving before the town on 5 Februrary 1991, Cornwallis captured the town, after six weeks of onslaught, invading the fort on 21 March.

While the British forces were attacking Bangalore, Tipu Sultan’s army stalked the British forces. Placing Cornwallis in an awkward situation of having an undefeated army at his back. Cornwallis decided to attack secretly on the night of 21 March 1791. The British forces stormed and captured Bangalore Fort. The fort was returned after a year, after Tipu signed a treaty. However, the war did not end there, it began with the First Anglo-Mysore War (1767) ending with the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War (1799).
