Prongs Lighthouse Colaba Bombay, 1900 Postcard & FDC
A 1900 Postcard and a First Day Cover of the Prongs Lighthouse near Colaba in Bombay (Mumbai). The First Day Cover or FDC is from the Indian Department of Posts, commemorating 125 years of the Lighthouse in Colaba, Mumbai. Built by the British in 1874 it has a tapering conical tower of 144 feet in height. Even today it is manned and working, accessed in low tide or by boat.
Prongs is one of the most iconic lighthouses in India. It is strictly out of bounds for the public, special permission is required from the Indian Navy and Directorate of Lighthouses for entry.
