German Prince’s India Tour Train, Old PC 1910

Old 1910 photo postcard of the German Crown Prince Wilhelms’s special train during a British India tour. He was the eldest son of King Kaiser Wilhelm II, Germany’s last King. The Kaiser sent his eldest son Crown Prince Wilhelm, on a private visit to the sub-continent, from December 1910 to February 1911. This pleasure tour became, to some extent a study trip.

The Crown Prince’s entourage included official observers who praised British colonial rule in India. They tried to study it in detail for Germany’s own colonial ambitions. He extensively toured the country calling upon the many Maharajas and other royalty. Went on hunting trips shooting down tigers, elephants, and other wildlife. He had also visited Ceylon, now Sri Lanka in this period. Click on the photo for better view.
