The Delhi Fort, or Red Fort, was commissioned by Shah Jahan, who had also built the Taj Mahal. The fort was built between 1638 and 1648 as the palace fortress for his new capital, Shahjahanabad. Although some of the structures were added during Shah Jahan’s son, Aurangzeb’s reign. The prominent buildings in the fort are described as the Lahore and Delhi Gates; the Naubat Khana; the Diwan-i-Aam; Rang Mahal, the Shah Burj; the Asad Burj, etc.
