Indian Troops In Europe In WW1, 1915 Postcard

A 1915 postcard of Indian troops in Europe in WWI. Two Indian men are shown seated on the railway track seem to have their meal. Some others are vaguely visible in the background. These soldiers were a part of the Indian troops sent to Europe during WW1 in 1914. World War I began on August 4, 1914, after Great Britain declared war against Germany.

The great war as it was also called would end in 1918. But in this short period of 4 years, millions and millions would die. There were around 40 million military and civilian casualties. Around 20 million of them died and 21 million were wounded, this included civilians. Over 1 million Indian troops were deputed to the war zone. Out of which more than 74,000 of these Indian soldiers would die.

Did you know- those who fought and died in the First World War would have had little idea that there would so soon be a second world war (1939-1945).
