View of Bombay From Mazgaon Hill, 1845 Print
An 1845 hand-coloured steel engraved print with a view of Bombay (Mumbai) from Mazgaon Hill. The view is most likely after the completion of the reclamation. Bombay is undoubtedly an engineering marvel.
It was first a splinter group of seven islands, which was united into a single landmass by reclamation during the British era. The project took almost two and a half centuries to complete. By 1864, it had nearly 8 lakh people since then the city has been growing by development and by overpopulation. The first railway train travel in India was in 1853, between Bombay to Thane.
