The Times Of India Building During British Era Bombay, 1905 Postcard
A 1905 postcard of the Times Of India building during the British Era in Bombay (Mumbai). The Times of India (TOI) building, located on Hornby Road (now Dadabhai Naoroji Road), faces the Victoria Terminus (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) and is just behind the Bombay Municipal Corporation building. The Times of India is owned by Bennet, Coleman & Co Ltd run by the family of Sahu Jain.
Founded in 1838 by the British as The Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce, renamed the Times of India in 1861. It is undoubtedly the oldest newspaper in Mumbai or perhaps the whole of India. It is also the highest-selling daily English Newspaper in India. The TOI building is one of the most magnificent of Indo-Saracenic architectural styles in India.
