The Flying Carpet Biplane Over The Taj Mahal In Agra, 1932 Photo
A 1932 press photo of the “Flying Carpet” biplane flying over the Taj Mahal in Agra. The open cockpit biplane The “Flying Carpet” took off in 1930 to fly to the remote corners of the earth. Taking 18 months to fly around the globe, visiting 34 countries, with stops along the way. Richard Halliburton, American author, and explorer, and Moye Stevens, Pilot, were the sole occupants.
In this 1932 air journey, Halliburton and Steve flew into the British India leg. The photo shows the Flying Carpet biplane flying over the Taj Mahal. However, in an unfortunate incident in 1939, Halliburton purchased a Chinese Junk and while sailing from Hong Kong he and the crew went missing. There are no whereabouts about them nor the exact location where they went missing is known till today.
