This book was brought out at the time of Peirce Leslie’s (PLC) centenary in 1962. It was one of the few companies that operated in the then Malabar under the Madras Presidency and Cochin State (under British India till 1947). PL as commonly known traded in cashew, tea, coffee, rubber, spices, and so on. All these were abundantly available in Kerala where Malabar, Cochin, and Travancore are now a part of Kerala.

Robert Peirce and Patrick Leslie the establishers found the rain-rich Malabar area bountiful in produce that had great demand in England and Europe. They set up their factory in Calicut, now Kozhikode on the beach road. Later expanding to Mangalore, Cochin, Alleppey, etc. Setting up estates in Munnar and Wayanad for tea and coffee produces. Coconuts from Alleppy and Mangalore. Setting up an office in Cochin now Kochi for export of shipments and also branching out into Travel & Tourism.
