An 1858 print shows the elephants of the Rajah of Travancore. This page is from The Illustrated London News, of March 20, 1858. Titled the Elephants of the Rajah of Travancore. The image shows, East India Company soldiers, mahouts, local natives, etc. The kingdoms of Travancore, Cochin, and the region of Malabar, became part of Kerala after India’s independence.
The Kerala Maharajas were one of the most progressive out of the lot and they saw to it that their state become progressive too. Diligently developing their kingdoms of Travancore and Cochin. It is well known fact that they did not squander money in unnecessary ostentatiousness for themselves. But used it wisely for the development of the people and the state.
