British Cavalry Parade In Bangalore – Old Postcard 1918
This is a rare photo Postcard of the British era’s Cavalry Parade at Bangalore’s parade grounds. The Postcard dates approx to 1918. Bangalore’s destiny changed after the 1791 war against Tipu Sultan by the British army. After a hard-fought battle, the British seized the Bangalore Fort in 1791. Realizing Bangalore’s cool climate was a welcome change when compared to the scorching heat of Madras.
By 1831, they made Bangalore, now Bengaluru an important military base. A cantonment was built for the military, a cantonment is a city in a city. By 1902 Lord Kitchener the Commander-In-Chief, India, carried out a series of reforms unifying the various splinter groups of smaller chieftain armies into greater unifying army brigades. As a result of this one of the formations was the Bangalore Brigade.
