M. Suriyamoorthy Charcoal Art On Paper 1964 (#1)
M. Suriyamoorthy’s charcoal art on paper, the artwork is signed and dated ’64. This semi-abstract charcoal drawing appears to be of a cobra and a bird (probably eagle). M. Suriyamoorthy was a prolific and distinguished artist. He was known to create his own pigments from natural resources ranging from medicinal plants, seashells, tree gums, old siddha medicines, etc.
He was born in 1944 in southern India and died in 2012 at the age of 68. His artworks are strikingly eye-catching, with women generally being the centralized subject. Suriyamoorthy had a distinct style of his own and uniquely avoided following any old masters or art movements. He had won over 47 prestigious awards for his artworks, many of which were exhibited internationally. Some of his works were exhibited in Paris, Bulgaria, Spain, New Zealand, and so on.
