High Court Building Cubbon Park Bangalore, 1900 Postcard
A 1900 postcard of the High Court of Karnataka Building At Cubbon Park Bangalore. The Cantonment in Bangalore (Bengaluru) was established in 1809, to house British troops located there. Bangalore was eventually christened as the “Garden City Of India.” For its orderly streets, houses, its lawns, trees, flowers, and shrubbery.
Two large parks, Cubbon Park and Lalbagh, along with numerous smaller ones act as the lungs of the city. At the entrance of Cubbon Park lies the Attara Kacheri or the High Court Building. The building was constructed in 1868. Painted in red this two-storied structure was built in the Greco-Roman style architecture. It has left and right wings and impressive porticos and massive rows of pillars. It is also located opposite the Vidhana Soudha or the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Did you know- the High Court building suffered two demolition scare one in 1950 and the second in the 1980s. Fortunately both times it was opposed by heritage lovers.
