Vintage Cars From British India Era – 6 Old Photos
These are 6 small old photographs of vintage cars from the British India era. I’m not entirely sure which are the makes of these automobiles. But possibly Wolseley, Chevrolet, Chrysler, or Austin. The occupants look to be British, not sure of the exact locations in India. Only a few could afford motor vehicles, hence it was not too common to find them on the roads like today.
Our maharajahs and princelings were the biggest buyers from the time the first automobile entered India. The other big buyers were the Zamindars, high-ranking officials, businessmen, and so on. The biggest cities that used motor vehicles were Bombay, Calcutta, Madras, Punjab, etc. Notice the acetylene gas headlamps, toolbox on the sideboard, and gleaming trumpet horn. All look to be convertibles with spoked wheels except for one that is not a convertible, see images.
