Viceroy of India’s Special Train In Bombay, 1904 Postcard
A 1904 postcard showing the Viceroy of India’s special train in Bombay (Mumbai). The viceroy on board was Lord Curzon on this Great Indian Peninsula Railway’s (GIPR) special train, pulled by a 4-4-0 steam locomotive. Entering the Victoria Station in Bombay (Mumbai). The Viceroy’s train had around ten or twelve cars which carried a big retinue of his entourage.
Since the aircraft was at a nascent stage. The train was evidently the best option for the viceroy to tour the country. Not to forget the automobiles although it was used for shorter distances or where the railway was not yet developed. Lord Curzon demitted his second term post as the viceroy in 1905, because of differences with Lord Kitchener. Kitchener was the Commander-In-Chief of the British Indian army at the time.
