Town Hall In Simla During British Era, 1890 Postcard

A 1900 postcard showing the beautiful town hall in Simla during the British Era. This image probably shows the original Town Hall of Simla (Shimla) that was built in 1860. The later period Town Hall was either rebuilt or modified from this one in 1908. James Ransome was the designer of the 1908 structure, although not exactly sure of the designer of the original Town Hall.

Initially, it housed a library during the British administration era. However, the Simla Municipal Corporation occupied the building later. The building typically went through the vagaries of the weather and decay, there were leaks and molding. Thus calling for its restoration and maintenance as a heritage structure. By 2014 it was handed over to the government for its restoration. And by 2018 this imposing Town Hall building was rededicated to the public.
