The Worlds Largest Camera, 1900 Photo

A 1968 news photo of the world’s largest camera in 1900. The mammoth camera was built in 1900 specially to shoot a brand new railway train. It took only a single picture of the new railway train from this special camera. The camera was designed by George R. Lawrence, a photographer and inventor. After Lawrence received an order from the Chicago & Alton Railroad USA to obtain a perfect contact picture of one of the brand new trains at that time.

The glass photography plate where the image was created was an enormous 8 x 4¼ feet in size. The inventor George Lawrence is seen standing on the top right side. This photo was created in 1968 from the original 8 x 4¼ feet photo that is with the Smithsonian Museum in the USA. It was included in the book American Album: Rare Photographs Collected by the Editors of American Heritage. Although the subject is not connected with India, regardless, we decided to incorporate it in this collection.
