King George V & Queen Mary In British Era Bombay – 3 Postcards 1911
Three 1911 postcards of King George V and Queen Mary in British Era Bombay (Mumbai). This is a series of postcards brought out when the British royals landed in India. King George V and Queen Mary were to be honored at the 1911 Delhi Durbar, bestowing them with the additional title of Emperor and Emperess of India. Moreover, the King grandly announced the shifting of the capital from Calcutta to Delhi.
Which was till then kept as top secret. Their first stopover was in Bombay with a hectic schedule of functions. Here they are shown paraded in a grand procession, the roads lined on either side with people. A spectacle that was never seen before, since this would be the first visit of a British Monarch to India. The first image shows both the royals after the procession leaving for the Medina the royal steamer ship that would take them to England.
