Srirangam Temple – Old Print 1872

This old woodcut print Srirangam Temple 1872 measures 10 x 8 inches. Titled Pagoda Seringham. This imposing temple is the magnificent Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam, Tamil Nadu. The complex is enormous with Dravidian style architecture, spread over 153 acres of land.

The year it was built is a bit hazy but considered from the BC period. And is broadly classed with other magnificent religious sanctuaries of the world- Tibet’s Potala Palace, Cambodia’s Angkor Wat, Vatican city, and so on.

Sri Ranganathaswamy also known by its name Thiruvaranga Tirupati, has 21 magnificent towers providing a unique sight to the visitors. Situated on an island between the confluence of rivers Cauvery and Coleroon. Read more about- Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam.

Did you know- according to scholars, because of its vastness the Sri Ranganathaswamy makes it the largest functioning Temple in the World.
