Inauguration Of Parliament Building Delhi – Old Photo 1927
This is an old 1927 news photograph of the New Parliament Building opened in Delhi. Shows the British troops at the opening ceremony of the New Parliament in 1927. King George V had declared the shifting of the British India capital from Calcutta to New Delhi at the Durbar of 1911.
It was the architects Edward Lutyens and Herbert Baker who had designed the Parliament building. Both had also planned and designed the city of New Delhi, which was officially inaugurated in 1931. Formerly called The House of Parliament, it took six years to complete.
There are three chambers consisting of the Council of State (now Rajya Sabha), Legislative Assembly (now Lok Sabha), and Chamber of Princes (now the library). The British flag theUnion Jack can be noticed in the background. Click on the photo for better view.
