George Bernard Shaw Famous Author In Mumbai – Old Photo

This is an old photo of the famous author George Bernard Shaw when he arrived in Bombay now Mumbai in 1933. Shaw received the prestigious Nobel Prize for literature in 1925. His books and plays are still popular to this day. Some of his works include- Pygmalion, Man And Superman, The Intelligent Woman’s Guide to Socialism And Capitalism, and so on.

Shown here is George Bernard Shaw arriving in Mumbai in 1933 on a world tour. He acknowledges the crowd’s greetings on his arrival. Socialist in thought he had empathy for the Indian freedom struggle. And was a great admirer of Mahatma Gandhi and described him “He  is  the  sort  of  man  who  is born,  perhaps, once in several  centuries, a  very marvelous  personality.”

Did you know- The 1964 Oscar-winning movie “My Fair Lady” was based on George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play Pygmalion.
