Children’s Fete At The Exhibition British Era Bombay, 1900 Postcard

Children's Fete At The Exhibition Bombay, PC 1900

A rare 1900 postcard that shows a children’s fete at an exhibition in British Era Bombay (Mumbai). It gives a rare glimpse of a large gathering of European children in Bombay. They seem to be looking on to some event with rapt attention. Not much information are available regarding European childrens life in India. Except that some of the famous British personalities were born in India.

The most famous of them was Rudyard Kipling, Nobel prize winner and author of the Jungle Book. Rudyard Kipling was born in Mumbai in 1865. His father Lockwood Kipling worked as a professor at JJ School of Arts in the city. Other equally famous in India were Vivien Leigh (actor, Gone with the wind), Cliff Richard (singer), Julie Christie (actor, sound of music), and so on. Click on the photo for better view.

Did you know- British children sent to England and many years later, they wrote about how much they loved their ayahs and how much they missed India.
