Aerial View Of Gateway Of India & Taj Mahal Hotel Bombay, 1920 Postcard

A 1920 postcard displays aerial view of the Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal Hotel in Bombay (Mumbai). The iconic Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal Hotel are visible in the foreground. The area known as Apollo Bunder was a landing jetty for steamer ship passengers during the British era.

The area shown beyond the Taj Hotel is Fort. The Royal Bombay Yacht Club and its annex is visible on the right side of the Taj Hotel. Beyond that are the Prince of Wales Museum, Royal Institute of Science, Rajabai Clock Tower, etc. The seven islands of Bombay were unified into a single landmass by reclamation by the British. It took almost 2½ centuries to complete the reclamation work. Click on the photo to get a better view
