A Village Scene In British Era Bombay, 1903 Postcard

A 1903 postcard of a village scene in British Era Bombay (Mumbai). Another nice postcard that depicted the once lush green city of Bombay. A beautiful scene during the British Era, the place was lined with coconut palm trees, quaint houses, and bullock carts on the road. This place was probably the Chowpatty Girgaon area from the beginning of the century.

Today Bombay is not only the capital of Maharastra, but also one of the four principal cities in India created by the British. The city is essentially an export and financial hub of the country. It was once the largest cotton and textile market in the world. Today over 40 percent of India’s maritime trade passes through its port. The Portuguese were the first European colonialists of the seven islands of Bombay and had trading posts here for four centuries before the British took over the islands.
