Wellington Lines Now Cooperage Road Bombay – 4 PCs 1900s
Four 1900s postcards of Wellington Lines, now Cooperage Road during British Era Bombay (Mumbai). The Cooperage Road (formerly Wellington Lines) had sheds where coopers worked in 1746. Coopers, made and repaired casks and barrels used in wooden ships. The Cooper sheds gave the Cooperage area its name.
The pictures show fine upmarket residential apartments built during the British Era for the wealthy. Many of the buildings erected for residential purposes used the apartment system of housing. They tailored it to the city’s population’s cosmopolitan middle class and upper classes. It was built on a style that was vaguely a combination of the international style of the Art Deco from America and Victorian buildings. These included residential buildings, office blocks, and several theaters. Click on the photo for better view.
