Views of Taj Mahal Hotel Bombay, 3 Old Postcards 1910.

Three old 1910 photo postcards showing different views of the Taj Mahal Hotel, Bombay, now Mumbai. The postcards are from 1910 and the 1950s. The first image shows the Taj Mahal Hotel lit up in the night on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee year in 1953. The second image was taken just before its opening. To see the original photo of this view go to The New Taj Mahal Palace Hotel Bombay, 1903 Photo.

The third postcard shows a wide-angle view of the Taj Mahal Hotel with the Gateway of India. Constructed in 1903 by the great Parsi industrialist of Bombay Jamsetji Tata. It is said he took up the task of building a hotel after he was slighted by Watson’s HotelWatson’s denied him entry because of their whites-only policy. Nevertheless, the Taj Mahal Hotel grew to become an iconic landmark in Bombay. Today it is one of the leading upmarket hotels in the world. It is located adjacent to Apollo Bunder opposite the Gateway of India. Click on the photo for better view.

Did you know – in 1920Watson’s ceased to be a hotel, and had been renamed Mahendra Mansion.
