M. Suriyamoorthy Charcoal Art On Paper (#14)
Charcoal art on paper, the poster is signed by M. Suriyamoorthy and dated 2/11/64. An untitled semi-abstract charcoal drawing of a man and a woman. The poster measures 74 x 50 cm. M. Suriyamoorthy was a prolific and distinguished artist. He was known to create his own pigments from natural resources from medicinal plants, seashells, tree gums, old siddha medicines, etc.
Born in 1944 in southern India and died at the age of 68 in 2012. Suriyamoorthy was an important artist of the Madras Group who blended modernism by combining Indian traditions with modernistic techniques. His art leanings were towards regional and folk imagery. His artworks are strikingly eye-catching with women being the centralized subject generally.
He had a distinct style of his own and uniquely avoided following old masters or art movements. He had won over 47 prestigious awards for his artworks, many of which were exhibited internationally.
