A 1948 news photo of Lord Mountbatten with the Maharaja of Bikaner. The Maharaja Sri Sadul Singh and Mountbatten are seen at the Lallgarh Palace in Bikaner. The Star of India order was conferred on the Maharaja by Mountbatten on his 3-day visit to Bikaner in 1948. Lord Louis Mountbatten was the last Viceroy of India (1947). He was also the first Governor-General of independent India.
