British India Era Postman In Mysore, Advertising Card 1905
A British India-era advertising card with a picture of a Mysore Postman and an admiring woman. It also shows a British East India Company flag and a Half Anna India Postage stamp printed over it. It is slightly lesser than 3/4th size of a postcard. Absolutely not sure as to what purpose these beautiful and small advertising cards were used for. Maybe as a business card?
The text in this card are all in French and translated it reads, backside- “Ask everywhere for Antoine chocolate factor. Mysore (English India) guaranteed pure cocoa and sugar”. The front side “Chocolat Antoine, Brussels”. The bottom line “Factor. Mysore (English India)”. This was an advertisement for Belgian chocolates which were and still are world famous. There are a few other advertisement cards posted like the Post Office In British India Era, Old 1900 Advertisement PC., and The Tatschali Line In Bombay – Old Advertising Postcard 1899. Click on the photo for better view.
Did you know- that Belgium’s association with chocolates goes back to 1635. By 1900 or earlier chocolates were a regular import item to colonial India.
