Bowring Institute Club In British Era Bangalore, 1907 Postcard

This is the third postcard on Bowring Institute a club in Bangalore (Bengaluru) dating to around 1907. The Club was established by a Britisher B.L. Rice a civil service officer during the British of 1888. Bowring Institute is a social and recreational club in a 12-acre plot of land in the heart of Bangalore city. Its main building was conferred as a structure. The building shown in this picture with two side wings was after the modification.

The two side wings were a later addition, it is partially visible here. The verandah and the two side wing rooms were also later additions, the center portico was there from the beginning. The three postcards show an interesting transformation of Bowring Institute’s edifice. A major heritage restoration work took place in 2015 on the orders of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
