Bowring Institute Club In British Era Bangalore, 1907 Postcard

This is another of the postcards on Bowring Institute a club in Bangalore (Bengaluru) dating to around 1907. The Club was established by a Britisher B.L. Rice a civil service officer during the British era of 1888.

Bowring Institute is still a social and recreational club built on a 12-acre plot of land in the heart of Bangalore. Its main building was conferred as a structure. The building shown in this picture with two side wings was a later on addition. Both the side wing buildings are partially visible in this postcard.

And both the side verandahs were also later additions, however, the center portico in front of the main building was originally there from the beginning. The three postcards (see below) show an interesting transformation of Bowring Institute from over the years. A major heritage work took place in 2015 on the orders of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). to restore the builidng to its old glory.
