Begum of Bhopal At The Delhi Durbar, 1911 Postcard
A 1911 postcard on the Delhi Durbar, also known as Coronation Durbar, with the Begum of Bhopal. The Begum is shown bowing to King George V and Queen Mary. After King George’s welcome address, it was followed with homage by all-important dignitaries. The first in line was the Nizam of Hyderabad, then the Maharaja Gaekwad of Bhopal. Followed by the Maharaja of Mysore, Maharaja of Kashmir, and so on.

All of them brought gifts of high value, the Nizam gifted the Monarch a necklace of enormous rubies. Other Maharajas brought in gifts of jewels, gold cloth, and an ivory walking stick with a hilt carved from a single ruby. The purpose of this grand durbar was to mark the succession of King George V to King-Emperor. Lord Hardinge II was the Viceroy of India who organized the 1911 Delhi Durbar. Preceding the 1911 durbar was the one in 1903 which was the grandest of them all. It was organized by Lord Curzon then Viceroy of India.
