Aerial View of Parliament New Delhi – Old Print 1946

This vintage print an aerial view of Parliament New Delhi is a page from The Illustrated London News. Dating to Feb 9, 1946, it measures 14 x 10 inch. Originally photographed by Lord Alanbrooke from his York Airliner. The view shows the Indian Parliament, Viceroy’s House, now Rashtrapati Bhavan, North and South Blocks, and so on.

In 1946 New Delhi was a young city, it was only 15 years back that they inaugurated it as the newly built capital city of India. Two British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker designed the capital and its major landmarks.  Read about-The Move From Calcutta. Did you know- the shifting of the capital from Calcutta to Delhi was a closely guarded secret until King George V’s announced it at the 1911 Great Coronation Durbar.
