Ooty or Ootacamund Lake – Old Print 1920s
This is another old print from a book on Ooty or Ootacamund and its lake dating to around the 1920s. It measures 9 x 6 inches. The print shows the artificial lake commissioned by John Sullivan, the first European discoverer of the Nilgiris. Read more about Ooty Lake. It also shows a view of tiled homes in the foreground with the meadows lying beyond.
Despite the sepia photo print, the picture clearly shows an uncrowded and serenely beautiful Ooty of a once bygone era. Today It shows a different picture altogether more of commercialization and overexploitation. And being littered with plastic waste here and there. Thankfully, the administration has enforced a ban on plastic in the Nilgiris in the recent past.
