Viceroy’s Party After The Inauguration of New Delhi, 1931 Photo
A 1931 photo of the viceroy’s party is progess after the inauguration of New Delhi. High echelons of society seem to have attended the viceroy’s party in New Delhi. Largely the elite from British India’s military and civil service officers, India’s maharajas, and princelings, and among them foreign dignitaries also attended.
The location probably was the Mughal Gardens of the Viceroy’s house, now better known as the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The viceroy was the supreme head of India during the colonial era, Lord Irwin being the viceroy at that time. The Rashtrapati Bhavan was occupied by the President of India after independence.
