St Andrews Church In British Era Bangalore, 1906 Postcard
A 1906 postcard of St Andrew’s Church in Bangalore (Bengaluru). Originally named St Andrew’s Kirk Church it is over 150 years (built in 1866) old church. Located on Cubbon Road and was part of the Church of Scotland during the British era. It was set up for the Scottish civil and military officials and their families working in the Madras Presidency.
At one time its tower was said to be the tallest in Bangalore, and it became useful as an observatory for many people. Architects, historians, and lovers of British era history still visit this beautiful gothic structure. Today the Church’s services are in Kannada and English. Noticeable is a horsecart and driver waiting patiently. Click on the image for better view.
