Sailing On The Coastline of Bombay – 4 Photos 1905
Four 1910 photos show sailing on the coastline of Bombay (Mumbai). The sailing boats were apparently from the Bombay Royal Yacht Club. The club lies adjacent to the Taj Mahal Hotel, and diagonally opposite Apollo Bunder. Where the future Gateway of India would stand.
These are vaguely visible in the photos. Including the Greens Hotel (now the Taj Tower). Outlines of the Rajabai Clock Tower, Bombay Secretariat, and the high court are visible in the far distance. The last photo shows a portion of the Apollo Bunder and sailing boats probably of the Royal Bombay Yacht Club. Bombay, now Mumbai was reclaimed into a single landmass from a group of seven, today it is India’s financial megapolis. Click on the photo for better view.
Did you know- that the islands of Bombay were in Portuguese possession for 127 years (1534 to 1661).
