Ruttonsee Mulji Jetha Fountain Bombay, 1910 Postcard

A 1910 postcard of the Ruttonsee Mulji Jetha Fountain in Bombay, now Mumbai. The fountain was built in memory of Dharamsi Mulji an only son who died at the age of 15. Commissioned by his grieving father Ruttonsee Mulji a wealthy cotton merchant in 1894. It stands at the crossroads of P D’ Mello Road and Mint Road in South Mumbai. It was also known as New Fountain at one time.

This beautiful soul-stirring memorial was designed by none other than F W Stevens, the architect of Victoria Terminus. The design of the structure is interesting, the sculpture of the boy with a book in hand is right at the top. Just below the sculpture is an onion-domed pavilion, below that the elephant head and animal head spouts. There are also ornamental works depicting various animals and so on.
