Royal Institute of Science & Museum Bombay, 1947 Postcard

backside

Old 1937 postcard of the Royal Institute of Science and the Prince of Wales Museum, Bombay (Mumbai). This is another of A K Haseler’s famous aerial views of Bombay.

See the earlier one in the post Aerial View of British Bombay In 1936, Old Print.

Shown is the Fort area of Bombay with the docks in the background. Prominent are the Royal Institute of Science and the Prince of Wales Museum. Now known as the Institute of Science and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya respectively. There are some art deco buildings visible in the foreground and behind the museum. There were other art deco buildings in Mumbai constructed during the British era. One of them was the row of houses in front of Marine Drive.

Did you know- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya or the Prince of Wales museum was designed by George Wittet who also designed the Gateway Of India.
