Ooty In The 19th Century, 1880 Photo
An 1880 photo of Ooty in the 19th century. Shown here are the verdant fields of, Ooty, which was discovered just 50 years before this photo was taken by Samuel Bourne. Bourne was one of the most famous British-Era photographers. This cool hill station town is located in the Nilgiris or the Blue Mountains.
Just as Simla was a summer getaway to the Delhi British Raj administrators, likewise Ooty was to the Madras Presidency. It still retains some of its old-world charm, romantic meadows, enchanting lake, quaint old British Raj bungalows, and cottages. And not to forget the ever-popular toy train of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR). Which is a quintessential part of the Nilgiris. The hill station is now unfortunately getting heavily commercialized and overcrowded. Click on the photo for better view
