Old Courthouse Street British Era Calcutta - 2 Postcards 1905

Two 1905 postcards of the Old Courthouse Street in British Era Calcutta (Kolkata). It shows a British-era electric tram. Visible on the length of the right side are British-era commercial buildings. Also visible are two British flags flying on the right side building’s top. The street had an unusual name this was because a courthouse once functioned there that no longer existed.

See my post- Calcutta Old Courthouse Street – Old Photograph 1880.

Kolkata trams were first introduced in 1873 drawn by horses. The horse trams were discontinued in place of electrically operated trams. For a short while, steam-operated trams in the late 19th century, but later scrapped because of maintenance problems. These two postcards show the view of Old Courthouse Street from the north and south ends.
