Main Street Pune British India Era – Old Postcard 1910

This is an old 1910 photo postcard of Main Street, Poona, or Pune. Main Street was a wide tree-lined boulevard with shops on both sides emanating a charming characteristic of the British-built legacies of India. Today it is better known by its official name M. G. Road or Mahatma Gandhi Road. Visible in the picture is a motor car, and beautiful old-world shops of the period.

See post- Vintage Postcard Budhwar Peth Street Poona.

It is one of the principal streets of Pune, faced with shops on both sides from the British India era. A favourite shopping landmark for armed and civil service personnel located in and around Poona and the cantonment area. The most happening place for the young and old alike and still is. The road in the earlier days had trees lining on both sides see photo. The Parsis established the earliest shops on Main Street.

Did you know- Pune was the headquarter of the Maratha empire. Pune is also home to National Defence Academy, a joint services academy of the Army, Airforce, and Navy.
