King George & Queen Mary Arrive At Bombay – 3 PCs 1911

Three old 1911 postcards of King George V and Queen Mary show their arrival in Bombay (Mumbai). Arriving at Bombay Harbour by the royal ship “HMS Medina” on Dec 2nd, 1911. Customarily, with a hectic schedule. The King and Queen were to attend the Delhi Durbar held in their honor on December 14. In these three postcards, the royal couple are seen landing at Apollo Bunder.

Ferried from the royal ship Medina that is anchored off deeper waters. The arrival of King George & Queen Mary created great interest amongst the people and press alike in India. This was the first time a British Monarch stepped foot on Indian soil. Another of the postcards shows them walking towards the amphitheater built especially for this occasion. They were felicitated by high-ranking officials and the elite of Bombay. Click on the photo for better view.
