Fire Brigade In British Era Bombay, 1910 Postcard

fire brigade bombay

A 1910 postcard of a fire brigade in action in British-era Bombay (Mumbai). Not sure of the exact location but in all probability at Fort. Which was the nucleus of Bombay at the time. A demonstration seems to be taking place of a fire safety alert. Two fire engines look to be standing by in the picture one on the left and one on the right.

A tall escape ladder placed on the building. Uniformed firemen busty in action with a supervisor keeping an eye on things in the back. The primitive-looking fire engine, by today’s standards, would send jets of water to douse the flame. The collapsible tubes can be noticed extended out from the engine.
